The Legendary Soccer Academy way to learn soccer is more fun!

Truth be told, I do not recall if it was Tony Dicicco who said the quote above however I believe it to be true and an important truth that a lot of us coaches need to remember. How did the Legends of the game learn their skill? Pele did not learn his skill from a coach or in some drill. He got his skills by playing many times with a ball on his own or playing soccer in the streets and small fields of Brazil. The common denominator for many of these Legends was that they honed their skills by having fun playing soccer. Fun was the avenue that developed and nurtured the love of the game. The passion for the game then gave birth the drive to improve. Have fun, enjoy the process, Then the passion for what you do will grow and a drive to want to improve will lead to success.
Why is fun so important? Because the process of learning is filled with failure and failing isn’t fun. But if the process of failing can be made fun, then learning is sure to take place. The Legendary Way is filled with 1-on-1, 1-versus-1, 2-versus-2 and the occasional small sided game. Playing 1v1s and 2v2s is a lot of fun and filled with a lot of opportunity to learn and to fail.
What is not fun? Standing around in lines waiting to do an activity that takes 5 seconds while waiting for 5 minutes. Getting to touch the ball in an hour training session maybe less than 300 times. Being yelled at after I make a mistake. Being made fun of after having failed. Seeing a coach praise a teammate for an individual great play but being asked by the same coach to simply pass the ball and keep it simple. Feeling the lack of trust in my dribbling ability. Feeling the lack of confidence in the ability to beat an opponent.
Learning to beat an opponent with trickery/skill for the first time despite a lack of speed or physical strength - now that’s fun!
